SPT Survey Execution

The spt survey is a geotechnical investigation method that allows you to understand the characteristics of the soil of a plot of land where you intend to build a building. It consists of driving a standard sampler into the ground with an iron hammer and measuring the number of blows needed to penetrate 45 centimeters, which indicates the soil's resistance to penetration.

The spt survey is important for civil construction because it provides essential information for sizing the work's foundation, such as the type, thickness and consistency of the soil layers, the water table level and the soil's load-bearing capacity. With this data, the engineer can choose the most suitable type of foundation for the building, whether shallow or deep, and size the foundation elements, such as footings, piles or pipes, in order to guarantee the safety and stability of the structure.

In this way, we can consider that this step can bring economic benefits to civil construction, as it allows to reduce foundation costs by avoiding oversizing or undersizing of foundation elements. Oversizing results in a waste of materials and labor, while undersizing can compromise the strength and durability of the foundation, generating pathologies and the need for repairs. Therefore, the spt survey is a tool that contributes to the optimization of resources and the rationalization of the project.

Activities carried out in Campo Mourão, Quinta do Sol and CruZeiro do Oeste -PR
